Who else has seen the documentary The Band That Would Be King?
First off I want to say that Half Japanese is a band I've respected for a long time. But I couldn't figure out if this documentary is for real or some kind of joke or both or what. I just don't know what to make of it. Maybe I should give them credit for that, who knows?
But are the people in this documentary, including the band, the founder of Forced Exposure and others, for real? Among the outrageous claims and astonishingly conceited comments are that their music stands among late period Coltrane, they invented punk and their album Charmed Life is far better than Exile On Main Street and Sgt. Pepper's.
Plus, they go on and on about how ALL major label stuff is lousy and evil and on and on again. Then they're off on how they brought the majors down and stuck it to them! I guess they're joking, maybe I need to lighten up. Or are they for real?
I think what offended me the most was they were comparing themselves to The Shags. They're not fit to clean the Shags' toilets!
PS I'll take Daniel Johnston over these guys anyday!
