I'm really jazzed about this album. I've been listening to it a lot today

I think it will look good certainly against the recent material. I really didn't care much for their last 3 studio albums (not counting the punk covers album, which I liked better then those 3), although there are great tracks on all of them. Divine Intervention was kind of its own thing, but Diabolus and GHUA to me are sort of lumped together because they seemed to have no real direction other than to embrace their newly discovered extra low tunings. I feel like these songs simply have more direction than in previous releases, and there isn't any ferocity compromised. As soon as my neck gets better I will put it on again

I had the album for awhile, listened to it a few times, and got rid of it. Some of the tracks are decent, there is some nice riffing, and it is similar to their earlier work. The dull tracks outweigh the tracks that caught my attention by far and Araya's vocals are pretty terrible here IMO. Slayer's output until Seasons in the Abyss is more than satisfactory for me, their more recent work isn't worthwhile for me.

...And yeah, Slayer on Myspace... not a good sign

There is also going to be a listening party in Seattle Monday night. I'd go if this were last year, when I worked at 11 in the morning. But for one I now work at 7, and for two, I've been having my own listening party for a week I'll be buying this one as soon as I see it at a good price.

hehe I am getting old indeed to be passing this up Quite a few years ago, in my early 20's to be precise, I was planning to be at a listening party for a new album by a certain thrash band from San Francisco. The party was at a record store and was to start at midnight on a Sunday. Even though I had to be at work at 5am the next day I was planning to go, at least until I got an advance copy of it earlier that day.

At around 9:30-10 that night, I got a call from friends asking me if I was still going to the Metallica listening party. I said "I would, except that now I've heard the album." They were like "so what man, it's going to be a huge party!" I said to them, slower so they would understand.."Now that I've heard the album, the last place I want to be is in a room where people are going to hear it for the first time." I later discovered there were quite a few stunned people there...it was hardly a celebration

ha ha.... I dont like anything slayer, post Seasons in the Abyss, Seasons was there peak!!!! almost like Metallica And Justice For All, anything after that is just not Metallica, just mainstream BS !?!?

I like it. I mean they obviously have better but it ain't bad.

I guess I'm only into very select metal though.
