dun be sad..... broadband is not prefect, it has its own disavantages as well.
and even if the file transfer is done on msn instead of email, it still takes time to load.... anyway, thanks for letting me have it.

In answer to the initial question, I'd say yes on both counts. He is a brilliant artist and guitarist, and he is obviously a fan of Dylan and the Beatles who loves to cover their tunes.
Havens introduced "Freedom" at Woodstock. I read somewhere that he ad-libbed it on the spot because he had nothing prepared to do as an encore. If he ever recorded it in the studio, I'm not aware of it. Personally, I don't think he could ever top the Woodstock version anyway. It's a singular moment, and one of the many reasons I consider the Woodstock soundtrack an essential cornerstone of my CD collection.
And yes, Delta, I buy albums. I believe it's the very least we can do for those who create the music we love. Most of our favorite music creators aren't nearly as rich as the media would lead us to believe they are. They richly deserve our support.

I have missed out on what many consider the greatness of Havens performance at Woodstock.. I have seen it over 25 times for sure, and while I admire the feeling he put into the tune, the song and performance never did anything for me,, and since that is about the only exposure I ever had to him, I never explored his music... I hate that I don't hear what others have in that Woodstock performance of "Freedom"... But I have been known to "not get with the program" on other legendary landmark recordings (although I due tend to agree with critics and fans on most, but some elude me)... There were plenty of other Woodstock performances I liked (The Who, Ten Years After, C.S.N., Arlo Guthrie, Santana) but not "Freedom" by Richie Havens ... (I am sure the good Reverend will give me a verbal shot over this)... Anyone else out there feel indifferent (as I do) or just not like that Havens performance at Woodstock???

Syd, it really isn't anything as revolutionary as Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner", so knowing your music tastes as I do, I can see why you wouldn't be too impressed with Richie Havens' "Freedom". Essentially, it's the sheer joy, passion and abandon that he puts into the performance that makes it one of the highlights for me.
