21st Century Schizoid Man and Free Jazz

Does the last portion of 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson not sound exactly like something off Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz album or something from later period Coltrane? I can't find any direct quote from Fripp or anyone if he was trying to copy Coleman or Coltrane with that ending section...

Any opinions?

And yes, I am trying to make a connection between that song and Coltrane (anyone with me, lol)?

It's safe to say King Crimson was highly influenced by Jazz, Coltrane, and Free Jazz. They have had several members who are Jazz musicians who played Rock, to bring in the Benjamins.

Read Ian Wallace's liner notes to Live at Summit Studios 1972. Coltrane is mentioned a good deal.

Thanks for all the links Satch... All will be very helpful... You must be a master of google because while I have found a bunch of stuff you seem to dig up much more than I can...

What I really need now is some actual audio content of some of these people commenting on Coltrane... I don't like to use very much "celebrity" content (because it is always so overused in documentaries), but I do want to get one or two actual sound bites... Any suggestions Satch (Oh master of google)??
