Muse are turning into a serious competitor to greats such as Bolt Thrower in making all of their songs songs sound as similar as possible (though, having deciperable lyrics does work against their cause).
The opener Take a bow immediately reminds of something from Absolution (of course I don't know which song as it all sounds so fucking alike). Still, some of the songs are interesting esp. in the intros like with Assassin, which has a somewhat familiar, but very rocking riff and the crashing cymbals in Supermassive Black Hole. Absolution didn't really have any bad tracks, and a couple of good ones; this on the other hand has Knights of Cydonia which will make even Dio fans cringe. It starts out allright, but then there is this singing part which is gayer than Rhapsody's new name.
Overall, it isn't a bad album, but overproduction, unnecessary distortion, too much keyboards and an idiot one note singer weight the band down. Their previous two albums are better than this one.
Best Tracks: Map of Problematique, Assassins, Starlight
Score: 6.5/10
And yeah, my reviews seem to be sticking to the same formula.
