Ableton and GuitarFx?

I've got an adapter and have been plugging my electric guitar into my computer to use it as an effects processor, which is working out fine with GuitarFx. However, I can't save what I play using guitar fx, or at least not the version I have. What I really want to do is play my guitar and manipulate the effects on it in real time using Ableton (or Cubase, I have that too, but preferably Ableton), while at the same time using the effects from Guitarfx. I can't use my microphone to record the guitarfx output from my speakers and route that into Ableton, the sound quality is terrible. I do have a fuzz pedal that I can plug my guitar into, and then plug the pedal into the computer, but there are effects outside of the fuzz pedal I want to use.

If anyone can recommend another guitar effects program for PC, or if there is a way to integrate the programs I have, I'd appreciate any help.

You could try running GuitarFX on one PC, hooking your guitar to that one, have the lineout of that PC go to another PC's line in and run Ableton on that one, because maybe the reason the quality is terrible is because both programs are trying to use the same parts of the PC.

I've never used GuitarFx, so I don't know what routing options you've got with that.

By adapter, do you mean an audio interface? If so, then you might have some routing options available with the interface itself, which could solve everything.

Otherwise, I could suggest one thing you could try, which is a bit dodgy though. It would mean that you'd record the output of GuitarFx first, then do the Ableton stuff afterward.

If you're using your standard sound card to record your audio, you should be able to choose where your recording sound source comes from. Go to the Sound and Audio Devices screen in the Control Panel and click the Advanced button in the volume options bit. Go to the Options menu and click Properties. Click the "Recording" option and check every box then click OK. I'm not sure if it would be called the same thing with your soundcard, but there should be one that is for the Master output. For my Soundcard (Sound blaster Live) it's called "What U Hear". It could be the same on other cards, I don't know. Anyway, select this as the recording source.

Now you should be able to record everything that's comming out of GuitarFx with Ableton, or whatever program you choose, even though it's not really routed that way.

Again, it's sort of dodgy, but it might work... or not!

Hope that helps.
