absolutely. same as it's totally possible to enjoy a totally clean sound for one jam and a completely unrecognizable electronic mess of a guitar sound the next.

I too started out on an acoustic guitar, but after a while I got tired with the same sound. That and there are just some things that I couldn't do as effectively on an acoustic.

As far as the type of guitar being played is concerned I also enjoy an acoustic guitar with effects piled on top. John Butler is a good current example.

I go through listening phases of enjoying electronic sounds and of enjoying the true acoustic tone. I like variety and never want one over the other for long.

I think some might use effects as a coverup but there are good uses for those effects when used properly they can add a new dimension to the song.

i think it all depends, i like distortion a lot, not too much distortion though, i also like to hear some clean sounds once in a while

but tremolo and phaser stuff really annoys me

overall id have to say my favorite guitar sound is just a sort of heavily compressed crunch sound, you can still hear notes fine but its still a tad dirty.
