Best Sonic Youth Album

I prefer their 90s releases myself. Dirty is my fave.

Yes, after much debate I've chose Stripped over Goo. I'm really attached to their new album. Great stuff.

I think all the band's best points are best represented in Bad Moon Rising. It's by far the most atmospheric and well pieced together. Also, imo, it's the most negative and frankly the scariest of all their records. Whereas the other pre-Daydream records are all sort of defined by their fragmentation Moon glides from track to track with an almost Floydian quality. The new reissue with Halloween and Flower sweetens the pot all the more.

I think Daydream marked a slight decline in SY's greatness and Goo completely solidified it. The Homestead/SST era stuff is far edgier and digs a lot deeper into the psyche. On their newer records the vocals bring them down as well.

I can respect Confusion, Evol and Sister as reasonable choices as well.

Don't believe I've ever heard that one before.

My favorites, in order:

1. Dirty
2. Washing Machine
3. Goo
4. Daydream Nation
5. Sister

Of the three I've heard all the way through, i'd rank them:

Daydream Nation

Washing Machine
Dirty

funnily enough I have heard just the same, although I'd rate Dirty over Washing Machine, although it's a close shave
