Os Mutantes (I finally have heard them)

Well it has taken me several years to finally get around to hearing them, but I have finally heard Os Mutantes... I have been listening to them for the last few days at Napster and they are really great (and unique)... They definately have that 60's psychedelic sound but they have a gentle nature to their music that I find very appelaing (must be the female lead vocals in many of the songs)...

Rev Rock recommended them to me several years ago and they have been on my "want to hear" list ever since...

Why did I wait so long

For those who don't know, they are a Brazillian late 60's early 70's psychedelic band that offer a wide mix of instrumentation with a latin feel...

Psychedelic salsa perhaps? lol...

This is the first time I've heard of them. They're on my list now as well.

An excellent group, but obscure group. They created most of their own equipment.

Their reunion on May 22 was their first pefromance since 1978 or 79. Although, without Rita Lee and their bassist.

You want their self-titled debut. It's their best one. The first two recordings (the second being Mutantes) are their most psychedelic.

If you're interested in some other of the obscure psychedelic bands.

Os Mutantes are really strange and unique. They came up with a seamless mix of psychedelia and samba, etc. which is really bizarre. Caetano Veloso did much the same sort of thing as a solo artist (and has worked with Os Mutantes on occasion). He comes highly recommended as well.

salsa, samba, spaghetti, Os, Oz, Ozzy....at least you had the first letter right! As well as 9 of the 10 letters, giving you a .900 batting average.

You were probably thinking of the annual Fourth of July showing of the Wizard of Oz on TCM. At least, that's the story I am giving you....and you're going to stick with it.

I was listening to some Os Mutantes last night as a result of this thread. In their late 60s stuff, they seemed to be trying very hard not to sound "Brazillian", but of course they did. Anyway, they did some first-rate psychedelia with a very original twist to it.
