Quote: I am interested....how can an album you call "a bit too repetitve" and a great many others on here, would call going through the motions, be one of their best?

If wasn't so repetive it would be their best because of the better songwriting and better guitar playing which make up for the repetiveness enough to make it their fourth best album. I think those people call it a going through the motions album because the expectations have been raised so high by the last two albums and the Mars disc (the discs are called Mars and Jupiter) isn't that good. I don't agree with judgeing an album like that cause your getting better songs than all of the albums except three on Jupiter and you don't have to listen to Mars which also has a few pretty good songs.

You might be interested in these two earlier threads, the first gets sidetracked by a downloading discussion and than goes into the Mary Janes Last Dance/Dani California issue.

I meant 'everybody' in a very figurative way.As in majority. Its common jargon where im from. My point is: I dont believe the past 2 years were AS manure-y as we think it was. The reason for the overstated manure-status, imo: objectivity has been lost somewhat when listening to new rock bands remotely sounding like grunge,by people in general.
BBS?
i definately agree with the manure metaphor

Man, I couldn't stand most of those posts enough to finish both threads. I don't konw why I bothered finishing one. So many guys saying a great band sucked and not giving a decent reason why just drove me nuts. They were right about one thing though. The impressions in that "Dani California" video were terrible. One guy said the Jimmi Hendrix impersinatoin looked like Prince. I thought it was Prince. Is it really Jimmi?

I said Bloc party. I don't even like them that much but they're better than the rest IMO. Also, I thought the best bands of the decade were bands which have peaked this decade?

Yes.

When a band actually gets accused of ripping off Tom Petty, nothing more actually needs to be said to explain why people don't like said band.

Tom Petty ripped people off sometimes himself and I don't think they ripped him off.

For me I'd have to say U2. They put out an incredible album and have proven they can continue putting out quality music over decades. While I like many of the bands listed, none of them can lay claim to that - of that list, anyway.
