i respect that :P ... its kinda hard matching up the two on intense and mellow... they both have such epic songs... i mean i feel way mellow and sad when listening to songs like 'girl' 'a day in the life', an i get real bumpy with tunes like 'i am walrus' and 'come together'.... seeing that you like the zep so much, how do you feel about covers of their songs? i really love Tool cover of No Quarter, i somethimes even think its better than Zeps version :O

Still a great band, but I don't listen to them nearly as much as I used to.

actually i've noticed that i don't listen to much rock at all anymore. i could only listen to so many verse / chorus / verse variations. these days the rock i listen to usually revolves around either josh homme or mike patton.
i remember being about 17 and my dad (who was a professional musician) asking me if i ever thought i'd get out of heavy music. at the time i didn't think so, and i still haven't completely abandonned it but it's not my sole focus anymore. just another layer in the cake.

Hell, if it's Tool, there's a chance it might be better. Dunno why but I've never heard that before and didn't even know they did that. Encomium, I think it was called, was that album of covers of Zeppelin tunes. I can't remember much except for STP's "Dancing Days" cover, which was good, Blind Melon's cover of "Out On the Tiles", which I didn't care for really, and Hooter and the Blowjob's raping of "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?" I'm not a violent person, never have been, but I do believe I'd have to kill that fag of lead singer if I ever saw him for deciding he was worthy of covering a Zeppelin song.

^^^ you seriously have to take a look at the No Quarter cover! ... i remembered listening to the Led's version and thinking hmmmmm that kinda sounds like a tool riff! when i first saw that tool had a song by the same name, i was like 'aah, they took it cos it has a 'tool' riff in', but they totally changed it, and that is why i like it. They did not go the easy route and steal the song, they totally transcribed it (and not shitty like Emotive... i personally hated half of JMK's versions on that)... they took the original (i think its a 6/7 min song) and made it a 11 minute classic... get downloading, you'll thank me later

Kinda like Rage did with "The Ghost of Tom Joad", eh? That's my favorite song of The Boss and I want to hate the fact that someone made it really heavy, but they just did such a damn good job of it, that they deserve props for it.
I will have to check that Tool version out, though.

In all honesty, Led Zeppelin is and always will be a highly respected, if not a highly listened to band in my music collection. If you don't like their music, at least understand that they set a new standard for rock bands globally.

I've heard Soundgarden referred to as Led Zeppelin on steriods before. A friend of mine in another online forum put it this way:
"I honestly love Soundgarden and though they're not the landmark band that Zepp definitely were, Soundgarden simply improves on what Zeppelin did by easily a power of 2...if not 3 or 4 at times.
If Zeppelin was a tricked-out LearJet, then Soundgarden was an F-16..."
I might agree that they improved on what Zeppelin did in technicality, but in no other way can I agree with that.

lol, Soundgarden is not a patch on Zep to be honest. On the shoulders of giants is a phrase that comes to mind. Your good if you can take a style and improve it, but to be the one who started the style is so much better. Thats why the likes of Elvis, The Beatles, Zep, Sabbath will always be remembered. i mean Soundgarden is already fading away compared to some of the other seattle grunge giants. i do like soundgarden, dont get me wrong, but i have never listened to them and thinked 'hmmmmm, groundbreaking'

Soundgarden never got me hooked like AiC, PJ, Nirvana, Pumpkins & most 90's bands.
Maybe its about time... We've all have those (supposedly) legendary bands that we havent got into YET. For me, Soundgarden sticks out like a sore thumb. That and Stone Temple Pilots. Sound like a thread...

I could ditto that statement, but AIC would fall in the same category as Soundgarden for me. I never really got into either one of them. But so far as I can tell, I like Soundgarden a lot better than AIC. Never really cared for them, except for a song here and there.
