Recommend Me Some Jazz

Your suggestions are welcomed. You guys know a thousand times more about jazz than I do. I grew up loving blues and liking jazz. About 3 or 4 years ago, I decided I liked jazz better than blues. But even after that long, I'm still more knowledgeable about blues than jazz because every time I get the extra money, I'm always buying rock albums.

Thanks to you guys, I've decided to put collecting rock albums on hold for a little while and to pick out an album from six of the Masters of Jazz. First help me choose who to pick from. Miles Davis is the only one who I've already decided is going to be among the six no matter what, and I'm sure that's respected. I'll pick whoever you guys talk me into for the other five. So far the ones who come to mind are Coltrane, Monk, Brubeck, and Morgan. Once you've talked me into picking certain Jazz Masters, then maybe you'll help me pick their best album. Since Miles is a must, also tell me which of his albums would be the best to start with. I have Kind Of Blue on cassette and that's it. But I want something else from him. Should I go with Bitches Brew next?

As of right now my two favorite jazz tunes are "Take Five" - Brubeck(I know that sounds cliche' but I love it. What can I say?) and Lee Morgan's "Totem Pole".

Help me pass Jazz 101 with honors. Thanks.

I must say that I'm utterly ashamed that I haven't mentioned Duke Ellington as of yet. He is, hmmmmm, yeah, he is my favorite jazz musician of all time. I thought "Take Five" was my favorite jazz composition ever but that was because I forgot about "Fluerette Africaine". God, I love that song. I also love "Black and Tan Fantasy" and "Arabesque Cookie". Yep, Duke is certainly my favorite.
