Metallica has been going downhill for a long time, especially after their number with Ja Rule *shudder* which made half their fans lose a lot of respect for them.

i'll say it again...

if you do want to discuss the rise and fall of metallica go here...

don't take it the wrong way it's just that there's already a spot for it and just about every opinion has been said many times before... there's no need to get into it again just because the heading changed names...

all good...

another 'metal' band that i think has kinda gone down hard is monster magnet... they're metal the same way black sabbath is metal... i'd say 'dopes to infinity' is one of my favorite heavy album bar none... but their last 2 albums seemed to have just crapped out...

and how about fear factory? at least before they broke up

im not sure that they would be classified as great, but In Flames has really gone downhill. Up until their last 2 albums they were truly a melodic death metal band but now they have fallen into that generic Swedish sound alongside Meshuggah, At the Gates, the haunted and other Swedish "melodic death" bands which are neither melodic or death.
