Alice in Chains & Smashing Pumpkins Comeback

I saw a video on the net of Alice In Chains on the 22 May 2006!
How did I miss that? They're back. It is said that theyre gonna write new music as well.

Billy Corgan sang Down In A Hole! Awesome!
If I did everything correct, this should work:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...=758399837&n=2

Also, Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain both announced that The Pumpkins are back! They've got about 50 complete songs, and will record soon with some high profile "recording-dude"(the correct word escaped me).
No word on D'Arcy and James Iha though.

I sincerely hope that they dont fuck up their legendary careers.
My two favorite bands.
This was a good day.

if there's one thing i've learned over the years is that you really can't ever go back home.

i don't see how either of these bands will amount to anything more than a sad reminder of how much better they were the first time around. the commercial market has moved 2 generations since SP and AiC were relevant, there's no way they'll ever get back to being the same. all i had heard about AiC was a summer tour with a replacement vocalist, nothing about new material.

if anything my money is on AiC, they've got more of a straight rock sound but i haven't heard anything they did with their touring vocalist, william duvall, but he'd been playing with cantrell's band before the AiC reunion thing for a while so at least you know the chemistry will be there. as for the 'new' SP how is this going to be different than zwan? it's going to be corgan and chamberlain with 2 session guys to fill in the blanks left by d'arcy and iha. then again SP has always been corgan's show.

i don't know if it's just age finally catching up to me or if it's the red hot chili peppers effect taking hold of 90s bands (pixies and audioslave immediately come to mind). i don't seem to remember this many early 80s bands trying to come back in the late 90s. then again maybe they were and my point is proven that they won't amount to anything but a chance for their fans to relive their youths. or the RHCP effect has these 90s bands thinking, the chili's were around in the 90s and they're huge now so we must be able to do the same.

What you say is harsh, but true. History has proved it time on time. No doubt. But, even on the shittyest pumpkins album, im bound to find at least one kewl song. Thats all i need and expect: that small fix. Corgan's myspace is full of requests for the old raw sound. Lets hope he gets the message!
As for AIC's writing, its hearsay, but ill go google it later.

Just as I suspected: we are indeed going to turn into our parents. Bands trying to come back and milk a cash cow and/or relive a small amount of their former glory. This has "we suck" written all over it.

The Soundgarden reunion is not far behind. No doubt they'll be opening for the Doobie Brothers at a casino near you. See you at the 20th Anniversary of Nevermind in 2011 and the 40th anniversary in 2031.

We all know what the results are gonna be... But c'mon, its not like corgan hasnt already wrecked his career. He has nothing to loose. How can it be worse than zwan or the future embrace? (and then the new sp sounds like the venga boys, and i
tattoo this post on my cheak)
AIC should stay in the 90's.

This is what I really love. Us couch potato's speculating about how crap everything will be, yet we don’t have the slightest clue about the direction that anything will go in. I mean comparing the 'new' SP to zwan is pretty dumb, since there is a reason that corgan decided to pair up with an old band member. Not being a massive SP fan myself, I have to comment that sometimes what seems to be 'the corgan show' could well just be the conglomerate of two geniuses feeding of each other to ultimate produce what made the band great. The Beatles we often mistaken to have been the ‘Lennon and McCartney’ show, yet they could never re-produce the brilliance of The Beatles going solo. Sometimes we look at the individuals too much, and forget that sometimes the band as a whole is attributed to great music. It must however be said that comebacks in the history of rock has been shoddy at best, but my hope for SP is to defy these odds and make something of substance. I agree for the most part with Panbient, but im a believer in the human spirit, and give credit before someone fails, and stick afterwards.

New Alice in Chains would be like new Nirvana.
The Pumpkins' music from the time including Mellon Collie and (especially) after was not very good. So, if that's the mode the Pumpkins are still in, I ain't interested. Gimme some more Gish!
