[quote=Seerix]Objectively it would be tough.

Radiohead, for example, have been more or less uninteresting from the get-go, with a handful of notable moments but nothing that was unrealistically exciting or unspeakably bad. There are even a few songs on Hail to The Thief that are worthy of serious discussion, for example.

Yayer, everbodee knows that Radiohead's best music is on HTTT. Der.

Forget about the fact that OK Computer has finished at #1 on many British lists of the greatest albums of all time and also on SPIN's top 100 of the last 20 years.

I do like Hail To The Theif. But OK Computer, Kid A and The Bends are MUCH better. I happen to like Amnesiac better myself, but not many people do.

Most people are not actually taking that into consideration. We could easily talk about Master of Puppets in the same light.

I disagree. I realize a lot of people dislike later Metallica, but I find the material on the Black album and even some of Load very acceptable, not to mention freakin', And Justice for All. They have a right to change their sound just as Radiohead did when they branched out of their early pop/rock sound. I really don't carry much of a flame for either band really which has kept me out of the conversation thus far. However, to discount the music just because you don’t like it. . . .

Both bands seem to have set their own milestones, but due to Metallica's longevity, I don't think there is any competition as far as polls and album sells are concerned. Content is purely measured by personal preference, but skill is not in question on either side of the board. Both are groups of people making the music they want to. My vote is Metallica, but what do I know I grew up with a Mullet.

It was something I had to unlearn, especially after going through several years of being a metal head. I guess what did it for me is when I crossed over the boundary of being a listener to being a player. You really get to see and appreciate how much effort those guys put into getting where they are. Now this isn't true about everyone, but more often than naught I think it’s the case.

I’m still working on my acceptance of 80’s synth though.

I'm really a very open minded music fan and love all sorts of music including some 80's synth (The Tin Drum by Japan for instance) but I still tend to rule bands out for not jiving with me. Bjork for one. Although, I'm still not convinced she doesn't really suck. I also think Tom Waits is a phony.
