jazzfromhell,

Point taken. That "rule" of mine has never been set in stone. I just don't want to miss out on any rock by waiting til I get much older and decide that it doesn't appeal to me any more. But, of course, that's only a mindset that can be simply dimissed.

And after considering what some others have written, maybe we can pull off a Top 25. Yes, 100 is too much. But 10 isn't enough to display what you're really into.

I was going to be ambitious and try to make a top 100, but top 25 really would be a better idea. I'll put something together in a minute.

I don't know if this is a project still underway, but I'm working up a list of 100 for you. However, something I read earlier indicated that an album was only ranked if it appears on two or more ballots. An album placed near the top of a single ballot could have enough points to qualify, couldn't it?

Well, Joey, as apposed to other websites I've participated at and scored lists, this board doesn't seem like it's going to have enough participants for this to really work. That's why I changed it to 25 rather than 100. I meant to start a new board entitled The 25 Greatest... As far as only including those that appear on more than one list, I'm afraid that's the only way I'm going to score it, if it's my project. If enough people submit lists, we would have a fairly decent display of what we have in common musically.

I missed that you had offically cut it to 25. I'll work up something for you in the next few days.

As for scoring it your way, you are correct--it's your project, and you should do it however you see fit. You'll get some anomalies either way you go, with a small sampling to work with.

Do we include live albums or "best of" compliations?

Don't know why I haven't mentioned this yet, but live albums are just fine with me. Best of really isn't fair, so please leave those off. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing your list and I'll probably have a 25 Greatest... board up soon.

1 WAITING FOR COLUMBUS--Little Feat
2 MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR--Beatles
3 REVOLVER--Beatles
4 WISH YOU WERE HERE--Pink Floyd
5 WHO'S NEXT--The Who
6 LOVE AND THEFT--Bob Dylan
7 SGT. PEPPER--Beatles
8 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON--Pink Floyd
9 RUBBER SOUL--Beatles
10 COURT AND SPARK--Joni Mitchell
11 ARE YOU EXPERIENCED--Jimi Hendrix Experience
12 GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD--Elton John
13 LOST IN SPACE--Aimee Mann
14 ONE ALL--Neil Finn
15 KATY LIED--Steely Dan
16 IMPERIAL BEDROOM--Elvis Costello
17 WOODFACE--Crowded House
18 BACHELOR #2--Aimee Mann
19 REMAIN IN LIGHT--Talking Heads
20 ACHTUNG BABY--U2
21 ALL THINGS MUST PASS--George Harrison
22 A MAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE--Alejandro Escovedo
23 RINGO--Ringo Starr
24 OK COMPUTER--Radiohead
25 LIVE BULLET--Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

Were I asked to replicate this list from scratch next week, I couldn't do it, either in components or order. I'm quite sure WAITING FOR COLUMBUS would top the list, and the Beatles would do as well if not better (leaving A HARD DAY'S NIGHT and ABBEY ROAD off the list just seemed wrong!). The list of those bubbling under was about 40 discs.

I'm gonna go ahead and give the full 100 a try. The list I have made includes a pretty lot of classical which makes it tricky because it's usually more about composition than one specific recording. As it stands now my list doesn't include any Zeppelin or the rap classics Paid in Full and Raising Hell. Maybe I can shuffle things around and make room. Usually when I like a band a few of their records will appear in a block because I like them about the same and generally consider the lot better than what's a bit lower on the list, if you know what I mean. A few selections are quite obscure. In that case I will try to provide a link.
