Yeah, I remember that. Somehow, half of the top ten ended up being Tool, which didn't make much sense to me.

It's really not all that difficult. You just look at all the lists and only write down scores for the ones that end up on multiple lists.

Too hard. Can't do it. Plus, I think much of what I listen to would never make the list.
You're actually waiting until a certain age to 'get into' a certain kind of music. Weird.
Listened to John Lee Hooker with Burnin' Hell

Yeah, and when I get into my 50s I want explore classical music, mainly. It's sorta like having a different chapter to each decade in my life. But don't mistake me for saying that I won't listen to any jazz til I'm 40. That's not what I mean. I just mean I'm not going to buy much of it. An album here and there, fine. But I'm not going to start collecting jazz at the moment because there's entirely too much great rock I've yet to hear. I own some Miles Davis and my brother has made mixed tapes for me of all kinds of jazz. I get in the mood for it at times when nothing else will do, but, shit...I'm rambling. You get what I mean. Hopefully.

in theory it's this simple. when boRa did it he stuck to top 10s so he'd get more participation, which is also why most of the list ended up being tool. it's not that i think this is a bad idea it's that i don't think many people will go through the hassle of compiling a list of their top 100 albums. i know i won't. shit i have a hard time choosing my favorite 10.

Look, I don't mean to be an asshole, but....where did you get the impression that waiting til a certain age to explore a certain kind of music is a good idea? Seriously, I don't know why anyone would do that. Liking rock more and not having the money to start investing in a genre you don't know much about is one thing, but planning it out? I listen to whatever music I feel like, when I can. Age doesn't mean shit, it's not like people in their 40's are the only people who listen to jazz.

Hey guys...I was thinking about getting into Blind Melon when I turn 148.
Is this a good idea?

Blind Melon were okay (Galaxie was their best song) - but they wouldn't be on my top 100. Most people just think of the bee girl.
I made a top 100 list about 5 years ago using Microsoft Excel so it would be easier to move & sort the list as I was creating it. Now though, most of that list has changed. I had stuff like "Eazy-E" and "Too Short" on my list. They were favorite albums when I was in high-school, but they just dont hold up over time (lol). If I ever get some time, I'll try to compile another list.
Top o' the list will probably be:
Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
Metallica - Justice for All
DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Pink Floyd - Animals
White Zombie - La Sexorcisto
Rage Against the Machine - RATM
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
(Can you tell my fav genre?)

My Top 10 albums change too, depending on the day, really. If I were to pick a list based on the number of times I declared this to be "the best damn album I've ever heard" then there would be an awful lot of old material there. Lord knows I've said that about an album like Axis: Bold as Love and Sgt Peppers way more often than Individual Thought Patterns or Hell Awaits, or even that Monk/Coltrane quartet concert that was unearthed recently.
Maybe I should have waited to be a certain age to realize I was a music fan instead of just a rock fan. Life would be easier then, eh?

Am praying that Roivas will live til 148. What a great way to go out. LOL
Anyhoo, it is true that most people associate Blind Melon with the bee girl and that sux, even though they asked for it. Blind Melon sent 3 videos to MTV before "No Rain", and 2 of those 3 songs were much better songs. One of the worst videos ever, if you ask me. My favorite artists are: U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, and Blind Melon. If you like most of those bands you should consider Blind Melon at least enough to check out the following songs:
Deserted, Walk, Hell, Glitch, Skinned, Swallowed and Soup.
With the exception of the first of those, those are not their best songs, but their hippest. Some people don't listen to anything unless it's hip and miss out on a lot of great music. "Galaxie" is one of my least favorite Blind Melon songs. My top 5 are:
1. Deserted
2. Sleepyhouse
3. Time
4. Change
5. Walk
And if nothing else, EVERYONE should give their version the VU's "Candy Says" a listen.
