Hey...that's a perfectly fine guitar to learn on. Don't worry about buying more until you have a need. My best advice would be to save and buy one expensive one instead of two less expensive ones though. Many people buy an army of inexpensive guitars and they end up having no really good ones. Guitar snobbish in a way I know but that's the way it is.
There are so many options to start with and in fact for your first one you probably couldn't go too far wrong with a lower end Ibanez electric for your first electric...unless you can keep 'borrowing' your Dad's until you buy a higher end one.

i'm living proof of that first example. i've been playing for well over a decade and the highest quality guitar i own at the moment is a mexican strat among 7-8 others. i'll finally be getting my first high quality guitar in the next few weeks if all goes well.

Smorgy hit it right on the button. Save up, besides I think that initial learning is best done on an acoustic anyway. Nowhere to hide. It forces you to play.

Indeed...it helps a lot with making your fingers stronger and you can't rely on the sustain and distortion of the electric. The biggest thing that I notice about the best guitar players that I know is their hand and finger strength.

my first and only is an electric, not that I am trying to hide though as most of the songs I am trying to learn are played with really short, sharp, precice notes so i couldnt hide if I wanted to.
