looks like the list given belong to the 80s/90s, what about the oldies ? to me the most over-rated album in the world would be :

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

I mean, ok it's good, but definitely does not rank 1st among my Pink Floyd collection, to me The Wall, Wish You were, Animals are much better.

The only oustanding point about Dark Side, is the time /era of the release, it was the 1st kinda space-rock album of its kind. But looking back, its not so great, lack of good melodies, although it is still the most commercially listenable album of from P Floyd

Another point to think of is that the readers of this publication may not be the true cross-section of the music listening populace. I would wager to say that not many people over 30 voted in Eminem albums. We can all take a stab at our own top 100, but in my opinion, a good chunk of those albums had little to no major bearing on the importance of music in that time. That's not to say those albums weren't great albums (at least some of them were...), but there are so many different qualities left out of the list of those choices as well. I'd like to see, on a more personal note, what this forum thinks of a top 100 albums of all time. In fact, I may just have to set that kind of survey up one of these days on my own server space just to satisfy my curiousity, rather than relying on people like the Q readers to make these decisions...

cviewrest, this list was taken from between '86-'01 so obviously pink floyd is nowhere to be found, along with all the other 'oldies.'
Plus, I'd also like to respond to panbient's statment about revolver. If sgt. pepper is the culmination of what revolver started, why isn't sgt. pepper considered better?! this just seems totally obvious. you might say that if rubber soul hadn't sold well the beatles would have been less adventurous and sgt. pepper would have never been made. its just silly to base the quality of one record on the quality of the next one.

i would say that alot of albums on that list are overrated. Thought it doesn't mean i didn't like the album any. Like OK computer at #1. I think that's a tad much. I personally like the album but wouldn't put it as an all time #1. Same would be said about Jaged Little Pill.

The list seems to correspond more with popular than good. Though sometimes the two go together, but not always

hmmm... good point... i do prefer sgt. pepper and it probably would be considered better by most... but i think the reason i'd still place revolver above it in the list is from the significance of the risk they took with releasing something like revolver... i'd say sgt peppers is far more adventurous of an album on the whole... but only because of the risk they took prior to it...

it's like coming out on the winning side of the risk with revolver gave them the confidence to explore sgt peppers fully... i give it bonus points for guts hehehe...

well at this point your not even talking about the music (supposedly the criteria for inclusion is a list), just the alleged "relevance" of the record. I mean, it would be one thing if you said "you fail to see the enormous quality of the cuts on this album," but you have already concede that the music is not as good as on other beatles albums!

sure.. but no one is trying to convince me that 'give 'em enough rope' is a great album because it set the stage for 'london calling.' Why is revolver so special?
