I'm usually not a fan of gold hardware, but that guitar pulls it off nicely. I also like the finish. Looks like that would be a fine addition to anyone's collection. Have you played something like that model before? How's the sound?

reviews seem quite positive. especially for the price. seems to be comparable with a les paul (which i've tried and almost made a mess in my pants around the same time hehehe). i think it will also look nice next to my bass (which has a similar finish with gold hardware too hehe).

the only thing that kind of concerns me are the active pickups. i've never had a guitar that used them before but i know you need to stick a battery into the guitar to juice them up. i'm pretty sure it gives a sharper sound, not from treble but general noise reduction, seems to be popular for metal or jazz cats.

basically i wanted a les paul style guitar but i wasn't necessarily all about the gibson name. smorgdonkey recommended the ESPs to me and as soon as i saw it, it was over . it's kind of funny though because when i started playing i was really into ESPs especially kirk hammett's signatures but i had kind of forgot about them, didn't even realize they did a LP style guitar.

oh, and the list price may be $1319, but the quotes i'm getting from that site are $809. even with the $94 shipping to canada it's still under $1100 canadian. the only issue might be extra taxes at the border, as far as i can tell their shipping method with UPS covers the customs duties in the shipping fee.

Yeah panbient...that's a nice one...I'm sure that if you wanted to stay away from the active pickups that they'd put a '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge (Seymour Duncans)...if you end up getting that in either flavour (pickup choices) you'll love it!! I recommend that you hear each pickup before deciding though. I almost got the 'honey' or 'amber' coloured one just like that!!

Check out my Gibby...

I think it's good to have an active in the collection. It's a new sound that you can add to your repertoire. Hopefully the guitar will not be to much of a pain in changing the battery. My Carvin active bass has a really neat little compartment that folds out.

HAHA!! True panbient but seriously...you will love the ESP/LTD just as much...I guess the only thing that Gibson has over it is the nostalgia factor which admittedly meant something to me at the time of the purchase.
