Orrin Keepnews
Pretty crazy, but apparently Orrin Keepnews, founder of Riverside & Milestone records, and producer of some of the best releases from those labels, is a close friend of my current recording studio professor and is planning on visiting with us in class.
Time to break out the Brilliant Corners and Sunday At The Village Vanguard -- major signed edition opportunity.

Have never been a fan of his. Orrin is all about Orrin. I dare one person to read any liner notes he writes, and doesn't find he spends more time writing about himself than the musicians or music. Some of the worst screw-ups on reissues are as a result of his work.

Seriously, Satch, you came to mind a few days ago when one of the guys in my class said he'd taken lessons from Wynton Marsalis and that Dave Brubeck was one of his favorite leaders...

What, you mean Satchmo isn't constantly on the mind?
Just for the record, I would take Marsalis over Brubeck. Now....you add in Desmond and Joe Morello into things....
It would have been nice to hear Desmond with a great or even good piano player. But Brubeck's insecurties didn't allow that to happen.
