If you don't like bass you can use the ones that came with the ipod.

Why does everyone get iPods? iRivers seem to be so much more versatile for me. They play mp3, wav, wma and ogg vorbis. On top of that, once you buy an iRiver you can upgrade the OS free by just downloading it from the iRiver site. iRiver's also have been able to do Video (through one of the updates) which is somthing you have to buy a whole different unit to do with the iPod.
All things seem to point at the iRiver. I don't understand.
Must just be better marketing on Apple's part.
sorry, off topic, but I noticed everyone here mentioned iPods only.

yes anything with a 1/16th" input should work. they just happen to be packaged with the earbud style earphones. personally i prefer the big ass 70s studio style headphones that cover your entire ear.

I use the huge honking earphones on my computer. Good thing is that they don't go directly into my ear. And, of course, your ears will hurt if the volume is so darn high. I don't need mp3 players. And to answer whoever asked, "why does everyone buy ipods?"
It is all in the popularity of it and how many people own it. No one wants to be different this period in time. Just going along with the crowd...

Hah. Yeah! Same ones I would use. You don't hear much so the volume doesn't have to be so damn high.

If you mean the sealed headphones, they actually provide the lowest sound quality and acoustic isolation. The best full headphones are the "open" ones.
I checked with the Horde....they use these for their ipods.

-sigh-
Everything has to be about quality these days.
I don't care about quality. If I can't hear anyone when the music isn't even playing, then I am happy. It is like I leave reality, and reality isn't pretty so I've got to leave it sometimes. Anyway, the ones I use sound fine. They are pretty clear-sounding and the music sounds better then all the crappy ones out on the store shelves. Now, mind you, I'm a very cheap fellow so I don't like buying things.

My point, for this kid is why should he spend his money on inferior product, when he could get something of quality for under $50. Which will also be safer for his ears, than sealed headphones.
You want to use inferior product, that is your right. It's your money, after all.
I know what it was like to be broke and I don't plan on forgetting it. So, when I make a recommendation to someone on anything around here; I wont be making one that is equivalent to their throwing money in the trash. I just don't see a reason to throw away money on crap, especially for a kid I don't know what kind of funds he/she might have.
