Puts me into an interesting situation. Satchmo the rebel has some thoughts, but Satchmo the parent can't blame your parents, to be honest.

Have you considered the faster you finish your homework, and I mean really finish it, the faster you can get to the speakers?

That said, I don't do mp3's so I don know. Can normal headphones be used with them? The ipod version are extra dangerous to your hearing, because they're inside your ears.

Ok....Satchmo thinks he walked the fence on that.

Being in an AP class means you're in high school which means you should be able to listen to music unless its for religious reasons (which it appears it is not).

Both you and your parents will have to realize that you're becoming a man one of these days...

Come on, man!

Damn, that's pretty good, for all honors classes. Better than I could do, anyway (and not only am I your age, I don't think I'll ever do AP Bio, science is my least favorite subject and although I get by alright, I don't plan on making it any harder than it needs to be). How do you only have five classes?

Those grades sound pretty good to me, although I have no idea what sophomore or honors means.

Anyway, I've found an article here about volume vs. time spent listening:
http://www.headwize.com/articles/hearing_art.htm

The first table says that if you listen at 90dB then you should be able to listen up to 8 hours a day without damaging your hearing. It also says that 90db is the equivalent to "Subway trains, motorcycle, workshop tools, lawn mower." So I think you're pretty safe.

From the first link, I posted.

"The RNID regards 80 decibels as the level at which hearing is threatened - 20 less than a pneumatic drill."

From your link.

"Many experts believe that the OSHA numbers are too high for hearing safety. EU countries have very strict laws about noise exposure."

I think most of the headphone problems come into play not just because of how loud the sound is, but because of how close it is to your ear's inner workings.

Anything reverberating sound directly into your ear from a distance of less than an inch, can't be good.
