Akron/Family

Any fans of Akron/Family? They're on Michael Gira's Young God label and did a split cd with his Angels of Light. They play some kind of psychedelic freakfolk, which sounds very sixtiesesque sometimes, like the great "Raising the Sparks" for example. Anyway, Devendra Banhart was also discovered by Gira, right? They're similar but Akron/Family is rockier. Anyway I'm going to see them on Easter Day along with Mogwai, 65DaysofStatic, which should be a nice day!

LUCKY! I wanted to see them when they came buy but it just didn't work (3 hours each way, test the next day at). I like akron/family alot. One of my favorite current bands. Running, returning makes me want to burst with joy. I guess they have already recorded more material and are waiting to release it. How is the splt cd, i only have a few tracks (raising the sparks is awesome!!)?

the split cd is quite good, especially the Akron/Family part, I'm not so keen on Angels of Light. I love Swans, but I think that Gira's voice doesn't go too well with folky music, or maybe I just have to listen more to them... anyway "Dylan Pt. 2" is great as well. There are more tracks of the split cd that I really love than from their full cd actually...

Ah, if only you were in my RYM CD swap group this time, you'd be getting some more Akron/Family heading your way. The debut is the best thing I've heard from them, like you sad, the're pretty '60s ish, and even occasionally remind me of The BEach Boys, but I won't hold that against 'em.

Btw, you don't like the Angels of Light? I'll admit, their stuff with Akron/Family as the Angels isn't that good, but their first three albums are up there with anything Swans released. Michael Gira is a God,m I won't have his name taken in vain!

The RYM Swap was like way too much work... so I don't think I'll join in anymore, at least not during the following year...

And I don't know, you might want to have Michael Gira's babies, but I don't!

I've heard that split. Hippy sounding music.
Btw, I really like the Two Gallants album though I'm not sure how it is in context with this thread.

I saw them live last week and they were rather superb. Earnest yet unbelievably funny in a hippy kind of way, yes.
