Satch, I'd be willing to give you 2:1 odds that either 2pac or Notrious BIG win the championship

Yeah, and many who watch MTV would pick Linkin Park over Zeppelin, and the Beatles. Not that I am saying, either one of those is anywhere on the level of Linkin Park.

I understand what you're saying,

however,

I don't think that comparison is a little exaggerated when talking about the comparison between Tupac / Notorious BIG to Public Enemy.

If you think that Public Enemy's new approach to rap by making it politically controversial has an edge over the two 90's rappers, then I could point out numerous songs that are politically charged by both 2pac and BIG. Not to mention that Grand Master Flash was probably the first artist with a positive agenda (aka non-party songs) possibly 5 years earlier.

There's no doubt in my mind that 2pac could have taken anyone from Public Enemy in terms of lyrics, style, and flow. It's unfair to Public Enemy since they were on the front lines of rap and 2pac was able to build upon what was already built. But, I still think it wouldn't matter. 2pac was, and still is, lightyears ahead of anyone that ever picked up a mic.

The 90's rappers had mulitple DJ's, producers, and samplers working on beats for every song that they were in. Public Enemy did it themselves. I do like a few 90's beats much better than any Public Enemy beat, BUT, I still have to give the point to Public Enemy for doing all of their own stuff.

In terms of what the rappers did to hiphop culture, and society in general -- I think would be impossible to compare. All of the artists mentioned changed the landscape forever. I don't think either one has an edge, although, most young people today would not hesitate to say 2pac simply because they weren't around during Public Enemy's reign.

Like I said earlier, these are just a few reasons why comparing the 2 giants of the 90's and Public Enemy -- is not the same as comparing Linkin Park to The Beatles. It is in fact, ALOT closer.

I would just like to say, a lot of this makes no sense aka don't give up your day job.

Also, Public Enemy. Now close the thread.
