Amen Break
thought this was pretty interesting:
This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the "Amen Break," a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music -- a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison's 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip

I have the Winston's 45. When I first heard it used as a sample on the NWA song, I had to pull it out, to show friends it was lifted. G.C. Coleman is the drummer.

I was wondering where the Amen name came from yesterday. This was very interesting to know and a good video. I just hope I don`t recognize this in all the drum and bass from now on.

Why Spencer or Coleman for that matter, haven't sued is a major mystery. They must be allergic to money, because they would have easily made millions. There have been rumors, that Coleman has been paid royalties.

Actually, he is wrong about a few things. The first time it was used, would be on Mantronix's King of the Beats in 1988 not 1990. Also, NWA's and 3rd Bass came out later in 1988, as well and not 1989.
