Best Amps for Warwick Basses?
Hey all, just managed to pick up a used but in like new condition Warwick Thumb Broad neck 5 BO, for a $1000, you become jealous...now. Anyway, I am selling my old bass so I can buy an amp and a cab not too long after. I'm looking in the range of 300 - 500 watts with a 4X10 to start out. So now what amp do I get. I was thinking an SWR, but my friend suggested a new company called "Markbass", and I have ruled out Ampeg simply because everyone has one. So anyone got some suggestions for an amp for a guy playing a warwick thumb, who digs slapping?
Peace

I love the Warwick basses...you'll be happy with that!! I can't say that I really like the 4X10 sound though...not that I hate it or anything I just prefer when it's a BIG speaker bass amp so it moves lots of air. If you are determined to stay with the 4X10 I can't reallt suggest anything but I know the Yorkville bass amps are HIGHLY under-rated and would be worth trying out...big bang for the buck for sure!!
Enjoy that bass!!

I've got an SWR Workingman's 15 and there is no replacement for that 15. I play a Carvin 5 string fretless and it sounds buttery smooth. I get all the articulation I can stand, and the pops and snaps sound damn good. I searched and searched when I was looking for an amp and to me SWR had that sound. I have since purchased an older Fender 15 and it just doesn't compete. I've always wanted to get a 2x10 add on for my SWR, but never had the need. 10's are great, but make sure in your search that you try some 15's out. They give you tremendous earth shaking power, and are irreplaceable if you’re playing with a low B.
Congrats on the Warwick. Had I not found this Carvin that's what I would have purchased.
Whatever you do, make sure to take your bass with you when searching. That way you know exactly what it's going to sound like.

Wicked, I ended up buying an SWR SM-400 (so pre-fender)
Check out my new post.
