Really great or too pretensious? I don't know, but I enjoy a good amount of their newer album Feels. Some songs are simply very good, nicely made, but others are long, and it seems not for musics sake, almost as if to take up time. Good band though, aside from those rough spots.
As amazing it might seem to some around these parts, I actually liked their last two recordings. They both made it on my list for the prespective years in question. I liked the last one better, however.

I've only heard Sung Tongs, but I quite like it and I don't really understand this word pretentious... It seems it's always applied to those artists who tried to do something a little bit more special...
I suppose I'm using it in a slightly out of context way. In a way I mean as if the band is trying to sound like they're so intune and beyond others in the same category simply by making some tracks a series of 7 minute keyboard chords and the fellow talking in the background.
Not that I have anything against that sort of musical expression, but it doesn't always come across as genuine.
That's more or less what I meant by pretensious.
Im really digging this band ever since i caught a few of their songs live a few weeks back. Both Sung Tongs and Feels have been on heavy rotation. As far as pretentiousness...i think any band that plays 75% new material at a live show is sorta pretentious. I mean they're an experimental noise freak folk band. Some of it is pretty out there. I love it though. Animal Collective is pretentious at its best.
