Favorite Red Hot Chili Pepper song?

as topic says, what is your favorite "red hot chili pepper" song?

After thinking for hours and hours, I decided that, road trippin' and scar tissue has to be the two best songs by this incredible good band.

"Johnny Kick A Hole In The Sky" would be my favorite. I don't like much after that album, really (I do like parts of BSSM though), but I do like most of the material on their first 4 albums. I recently heard their "Higher Ground" cover and I didn't like it very much. I used to like it more back when.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of jungle man, johnny kick a hole in the sky, and all of blood sugar, but i also agree that the post-navarro fruciante era of the chili peppers career is greatly underappreciated by the rm community, and the rock snob world at large. It's more melodic and much less funky, but it's still solid music, and road trippin' does have a sweet simplicity to it's finger picking and lyrics that merit repeated listens on my chili peppers playlist. Probably my favorite songs are chatholic school girls rule (for epitomizing the three-sock attitude nad funkiness) and Cabron (because it's got the longest life, can survive the most listens and still be an adventure, out of all of by the way), but really the whole chili peppers catalog is so interesting and varied and intelligent, i dont think picking any one of their songs is worthy of a "PUH-LEASE."

I'm not a big fan but from what I've heard my favorites are Under the Bridge and Fortune Faded.

i suppose i was a little harsh with that but at the same time we've had new users in the past come along and start a thread like this one about jane's addiction without ever hearing anything besides 'strays'. i've also met a few chili peppers 'fans' who didn't realize the band even existed before californication.

either way i'd disagree with them being underappreciated. i've never really seen any backlash or 'sell out' arguments with their change in styles. most of their fans accepted it and either went along with it or moved on. road trippin is by far my favorite tune on californication, but it doesn't really have any of the spark or edge that their old tunes had. they haven't degenerated into a shitty band by any means, they've just grown into something that doesn't appeal to me so much anymore, and i think a lot of their older fans feel the same way too.

I would say that's a fair assessment. It's not horrid at all. It's not actually anything, in fact, in terms of what the band used to be capable of doing. Taken on its own merits, it's hardly the worst thing you could buy, but most people at RM really don't bother to make such comparisons. I mean, of course it's better than the Bravery. But it's the same argument I make for Maiden. They put another new album out, and it's still not as good as The Number of the Beast, even though it's better than the Bravery.

I guess I'd fall into the category of fans who have moved on. Even so, here are some songs I enjoyed, or still do enjoy to a degree:

Funky Monks
Deep Kick
Sikamikanico
Hollywood
Apache Rose Peacock
