Listening to any World Music?
I know virtually nothing about world music, if anyone's listening to any post it here, and hopefully others and myself can pick up some suggestions. At the moment, I'm listening to some remix of of Fela Kuti's music, called "The Underground Spiritual Game." I'd listen to his original recordings, but this is all they have on Rhapsody. Afrobeat is awesome.

I don't know if you'd necessarily call it 'World Music', but I was listening to Afro Celt Sound System's first album (Volume 1: Sound Magic)the other day. I'd highly recommend it. Their subsequent releases get worse though.

As I've said before I'm a big fan of Scandinavian folk. Hedningarna (The Heathens), Garmarna, Värttinä, Annbjørg Lien and Gjallarhorn being my favourites. Hedningarna's Hippjokk or Trä might be good introductions in this kind of style. Garmarna's Vedergällningen(Vengeance) is particularly good as well.

Yeah, I used them to start a station on pandora.com. Excellent music. However, when I tried to do Fela Kuti, they gave me a song of his, then moved into some Latin stuff, and then to pop Latin stuff. I deleted the station, I don't usually align Enrique Inglasias and Marc Anthony with the Black President.

That's weird/sucks. Maybe they lump him into world music, and it's pot luck after that.

Yeah, I don't know, they got it right and stayed on track when I put Antibalas in though.

I've been listening to some Carribean/Island music as a result of me newfound life's mission to learn to play steelpan drums, but so far just islanicized covers of american pop songs.
I'm also a big fan of Israel Kamagamiwiwo'ole

Try this album - "Blue Camel" by Rabih Abou-Khalil
It is middle-eastern in sound but played with jazz musicians. Very highly recommended.

YES!!!!
Rabih Abou Khalil has some serious recordings. He hasn't release anything that isn't worth getting.
After hezagenius' excellent recommendation, I would follow with
Sultan's Picnic
Arabian Waltz
Cactus Knowledge
Roots and Sprouts
Morton's Foot
His latest, Journey to the Centre of an Egg was just released on Feb. 7th.
