I like my drummers busy and love it when they play around with the time. I like a little world flare in there as well. Anything to take away from the norm. Lot's of my favorites have already been listed. Here are some rock and rollers and few forgotten Jazz guys.

Cozy Powell, Terry Bozzio, Nicko McBrain, Brain, Keith Moon, Stewart Copeland, Youssou N'Dour, Manu Katche, John Bonham

Jazz -
Peter Erskine, Trilok Gurtu, Simon Phillips

yeah man, rim shots on a snare with snares disengaged. it has a real distinctive sound, a little more muffled timbale than even a small tom. right in the places you refer to, on the third beat and on the first two sixteenths of the seventh...

good luck !

can't believe i forgot dejohnette and roy haynes amongst the living...

gotta love on his "not for the pros" dvd, the "ian paice cam" part where during a fairly recent show, you get an angle of JUST ian for a protracted period. the man is NOT phoning it in or in retirement ! swinging like a bi#ch (birch) from the downbeat ! morse just driving him relentlessly...

he IS the paice maker...
