Strings

I was just wondering what are some of your favorite strings, for bass and guitar. There are so many out there I enjoy trying new brands. I tend to go with Elixirs a lot of the time, but I also enjoy Ernie Ball on my bass.

I'm currently looking for a 5 string, flat wound bass strings. Any recommendations would be great.

As a side note, I like a little age on my strings. I enjoy new ones for a while, but I’m always happy when the strings mellow out, especially on the bass.

Have you tried the D'Addario bass strings? I put some EXL170 on my bass a while back and really like them. I can't be too shocked given the experience that company has with making quality strings for guitar though.

I had them on for a while, but I ended up putting the Ernie Balls on the next time I changed them. The D'Addario's were a little to bright for me. On my Gibson I use D'Addario's.

i've been using d'addario ECB815s on my 5 string fretless. they're soft gauge, long scale, ribbon wound .045 - .132. i had to get them ordered in a few years ago but i haven't had to replace them yet. the only issue is the price, these strings are EXPENSIVE at least double if not triple an ordinary set of strings. my set was $121.50 canadian but it's proven worthwhile.

in terms of tone the high strings are pretty bright even when you cut the tone on your instrument but they will mellow out with use.

Yeah, it's about time for me to change the strings on my fretless. I'll check 'em out, thanks.

I understand that they have more material in them, but why must we bass players have to pay so freakin' much. I guess that just means we're cooler.

damn straight bass players are cooler hehehehe but at the same time you're less likely to pop a bass string than a guitar string and far less likely to pop a flat string than a round one. even after 4 years i don't feel the need to restring my fretless. then again i'm not exactly a serious gigging musician either hehehe.

Thing with the fretless is, it's still has the strings on it from the store. I don't know what kind they are, but they sound good.

However, now that I've had this guitar for about a year and I'm used to playing it, I'm ready to switch to flat wounds since, I'm still playing it constantly.

I jam maybe once or twice a week, so it's starting to wear just a little.

That and I've always loved the flat wound sound.
