A few years ago, NME said Revolver was the best album of all time. Now it is #9? And Arctic Monkeys? They've been around for about a year that I know of. Maybe NME's criteria are different for this list. I mean, Led Zep IV at 97? Gimme a break. I suppose they have to maintain their readers who only listen to music from the last 10 years.

the british press is always on the lookout for the next oasis. if there's no band good enough, they hype them up, so that people think they are. last year it was franz ferdinand. this year, its arctic monkeys.

no doubt compiled by someone not terribly interested in anything pre-1980. they only seem to have what's obligitory on a list like this.

still, a nice cross section of music, even if slightly sided to post-1980 alternative and such.

Was the British release of this album actually "Appreciation Society"?

Was there even a separate release for the UK?

for a place with a musical heritage like britain its pretty offensive to see the arctic monkeys in the top 100 let alone the top 10 given that its been out for what...a month or two? i dunno if putting them there is meant to be controversial or wat but i dont think you would find many who'd agree with its placing

Rolling Stone magazine pulls the same shit every year as well, though. They'll take a couple johnny-come-latelys that clearly have no staying power and put them in the top 20 somewhere on some random list just so they can show their target audience they are "hip."
