Gerry Hemingway:
1. Slamadam
2. Marmalade King
3. Johnny's Corner Song
4. George Graewe/ Ernst Reijseger/ Gerry Hemingway - Continuum
The first three of these were some of the best recordings the years they were released. All three were seriously Satchmo Out of Print, but you can now get Johnny's Corner Song directly from Gerry Hemingway.
http://www.gerryhemingway.com/recordings.html
The fourth was just released earlier this year, and is the first by this trio in 5 years. Somewhere on 2006, for sure.

Nice, but if you haven't heard it....you need
P.S. Not for those with High Blood Pressure or High Cholesterol, because this is some serious Greeeaazzzzzzy playing. That includes a Greeeaazzzzy version of Can't Buy Me Love by those 4 lads from Liverpool.
You want the Impulse version of this title, with that cover. Not the Prestige, which is just a compliation from several recordings she played on for Prestige.

Well, I like that particular album a lot. I couldn't tell you a lot about what I think of Maneri's playing itself after just one listen, but I like the feel/mood/general sound of the album, nice and relaxed while still very "out." Not a combination I've heard very often in avant-garde/free jazz. The title fits it perfectly.

It's also seriously out of print. So nice find! Anything you can find by him will be good, but especially the hatHut/ HatOLOGY recordings.
Unfortunately, his health is not doing too well. As you can see, he is seriously overweight and is now 79. Last I saw him perform, he was using an oxygen tank. I believe he has stopped performing. He made his first recording when he was 35, but was released at the time. His first official recording that was released was when he was 64.
He comes from the Arnold Schoenberg and Ben Webster (at least, I hear Webster in his tenor playing) school. He was a pupil of one of Schoenberg's pupils.

Well, you're the one who reccomended it to me, when I made a large HatHut order from JazzLoft about a month ago. I wouldn't have known to buy it without your help, I hadn't even heard of Maneri. So thanks!

Yes. A great purchase, that was, and there're still some leftovers. I have yet to listen to Clusone 3 - An Hour With..., and Lee Konitz-Thingin' and one of the percussion HatARTs never came. I e-mailed Alan about them, he said that they were out of stock when I first made the purchase, but that he had them now, which I interpereted as meaning he was sending them. Since that e-mail came a week or so ago, and the CDs still haven't come, I don't really know what to think. Guess I'll wait a few more days, then e-mail him again...
My first batch of CDs from the Concord Music Group also has yet to come, and that was ordered either two or three (can't remember at the moment) weeks ago, come tomorrow.
