I have seen a great many conerts in my time, but Cecil's 1988 Month long Fest in Berlin was/is one of the legendary ones.
Satchmo's Adventures in getting in and out of the East Berlin could be made into several films and/or books.
It also involved one of the many times someone tried to put Satchmo six-feet under.
aka
One of those you will be hearing clapping on that recording and all the rest of the recordings which make up the FMP Box set is a then 25-year-old Satchmo.

I've finally purchased the Coltrane/Monk disc. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'll play it loud this weekend.

Not for the faint of heart, baby. Urban Legend has it that they would follow this up the next day, by recording OM while on LSD.
YO! YO! and even more YO's!

Did Coltrane and Miles take a lot of LSD? I've never been sure, it would certainly go well with the kinds of music they were making in the late 60's.

Miles drugs of choice, when he did drugs were Heroin and Cocaine. Heroin up through the mid 50's, and Cocaine in the 70's and 80's.
Coltrane was riding the Horse and was a drinker, as well in the 50's. Miles ended up firing him, because of the Heroin. They quit the Heroin, by going Cold Turkey. Miles at his parents home in East St. Louis inbetween 1953-1954. Coltrane did it in 1957 at his home in Philly, at which point he had his Spiritual Epiphany, that lead to A Love Supreme, etc....
Like I said, the rumors are that Coltrane and the others did LSD for that recording.

I've been avoiding drinking too much soda lately, but I had to whip one of these out for the occasion (unfortuneately, no bottles to be found in our house):
As I always say, canned Coke is better than no Coke. However, despite all the music arriving, on the drive home from school I got hit by a sudden craving, and will be listening to the Beach Boys for the next ten or twenty minutes before digging into the new stuff.
