I believe, Satchmo already made very clear his thoughts on this most excellent recording.

P.S. Fantastic albums, by the way.

Gregy Osby - alto
Jason Moran - piano
Atsushi Osada - bass
Rodney Green - drums

a live recording of 5 covers of the masters (Newk, Duke, Bird, Monk) and one original, that is so smoking....you might need a fire extinguisher, just in case.

This is almost bootlegish, in that Osby just threw down a mini-recorder and one mike, but it sounds incredible. This is only the second record Jason Moran appeared on.

The only negative, Satchmo could possibly come up with is that somehow I missed this performance.

yesterday was so musically eventful that i didn't have time to post...

first, got to see burt bacharach with the local longhairs (nc symphony) and managed to get a couple of minutes with burt. (he was apparently impressed from a distance by some of my chord voicings, but didn't want to hang out with his band getting wasted and LOUD)...

that was cool...

...and THEN i came home to the new mike stern "live in paris" dvd. oh LORD ! richard bona (who i am beginning to see as jaco's real heir-apparent), bob franceschini (an unknown to me, channeling newk via bob berg), and dennis chambers, who i am now convinced is not even human. his solos contain some of the most amazing metric independence that i have ever seen ANY drummer do. and of course, mister fat time hisself, the greatest acid rock bebopper of our time. the dvd also includes an insightful interview with mike about his background, and working with miles and others...

it was a very good sunday...

steviedan, which intrument(s) do you play? I'm pretty sure you play drums, but that wouldn't account for chord voicings.

Stan Getz & J.J. Johnson at the Opera House

Good album, but the mix isn't too great; drums are way too loud, horns are two quiet, and the bass is almost drowned out. As it goes on, things even out more.
