Bud Powell, Max Roach, Charlie Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker - The Greatest Jazz Concert Ever
1938, Carnegie Hall, I believe. Satchmo, let me know if any of this information is incorrect. I saw the album in someone's collection and downloaded it.

I can tell you that there's no way any of those guys were playing at Carnegie Hall in 1938, I'm pretty sure Charlie Parker never played in Carnegie Hall at all (although he might've, I'm not sure). From the line up, I'd guess it's the '53 Massey Hall concert (which is, by many accounts, the greatest jazz concert ever, and the only time I've ever heard of the line up).

Then, its probably Massey Hall. I did a brief search and got strange results.

What're the tracks? This is the Massey Hall set:
Perdido, 7:59
Salt Peanuts, 7:33
All the Things You Are/52nd Street Theme, 7:55
Wee, 6:50
Hot House, 9:21
A Night In Tunisia, 7:31
Do they match?

...yeah, my search brought up 1953 Massey Hall too. Apparently, Mingus was filling in for bassist Oscar Pettiford, whom broke his arm.

Bird and Dizzy did play at Carnegie Hall on September 29, 1947. You can hear it on Diz 'N Bird at Carnegie Hall, put out in 1997 on a Blue Note release. They together on 5 of the 15 tracks. The rest is Gillespie's Big Band.
I already gave information about the Massey Hall performance, which had Bird using a plastic alto. However, the first time it was reissued as a 2-lp set, it was by Prestige and called The Greatest Concert Ever.

One last point, the first known recording by Bird is May or Nov. of 1940.
