Ok, probably the haul of the YEAR for me, in terms of sheer volume: I went to my Grandma's house to pick up some furniture with my dad today. As anyone who remembers my posts about the books in the Novel Thread from last time I went will remember, she basically says I can have anything in her house, she's just happy someone's using it. So, I got a bunch more books, but on top of that, I found something even better in the back room of the house: a mighty fine-lookin' turntable, and not that old of one either (probably 25-30 years old). Now, next to this turntable was something that had to be no less than two hundred records, almost all classical, with some broadway shows mixed in. We didn't have room in the car to take all of them, I just grabbed about thirty, I'll go over again soon and get the rest. I owe my dearly beloved Grandma many, many thanks, and as soon as I get the thing working you can bet that people in my neighborhood are gonna batton down the fuckin' hatches.
P.S. I get to add those to my parents' old records (not too many), as well as some random fusion records that were lying on the table of free stuff at the Haz-mat tonight (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tony Williams' Lifetime, Jack DeJohnette).

Check to see, if she has any Blue Note lps. I wouldn't hold my breath, but Satchmo unlike others around here, doesn't like to assume things.
What make and model is the turntable?

i was hoping to just chill at the old "what are you listening to" thread, but i see that the powers that be have decided to close it down. this, despite the daily jazz and conversation that was continuing and the decided lack of huge bandwidth chewing smiley-face parties, waves, and compensating exclamatory graphics (and my scroll finger was almost recovered)...
forgive me, i'm fairly new i guess. but i would be curious if there were a technical reason that an active thread was closed or that george w was running this site and i just was unaware of that...
anyway, now that i've been evicted from part one and into part "doo", tonite it's:
donald byrd - "at the half note cafe, vols 1 & 2" (blue note)
yay
i so rock
