Time for some preparation, for tomorrow's continuation of Da Fest.
SACD version, and Single Malt, still in full effect.

not so much what i'm listening to part two, as what i heard in the car awhile ago part one. jerry douglas band live from lake wobegon doing the weather report tune "a remark you made" with bluegrass instrumentation...
i made a remark (aloud even though i was by myself)...
i remarked: "this is beautiful !"...
best of all, i then realized that i have it on his new record ("best kept secret") and i just haven't listened to it yet...
sssssschweet !

Ok, listened to Never No Lament all the way up to Tahoe. Some fine music, indeed. Then listened to Blood on the Tracks, Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding, and Bringing It All Back Home on the way back. Duke on the way up, Dylan on the way back. Two mighty fine rides, indeed.
P.S. Skiing sucked, some of the worst conditions I've ever been in.

sounds like the ride was better than the destination. for me, on part two or the next errand they were near equals. i heard a very nice fingerstyle piece by bruce cockburn from his relatively new "speechless" instrumental collection on rounder on the way to score the very fine five-shot mocha...
i have the old (from '86) "blanton-webster band" three disc set and i'm happy enough with it to not spend that money again. one of my favorite things from that era is a rare direct-to-disc recording by jack towers of a dance gig: "fargo, north dakota - november 7, 1940" on vjc records. the band is justa jumpin' and feeling the crowd, with no regard for the recording process. a treasure of a recording. i have near a yard of ellington discs and that would be THE keeper if i had to give up the rest...

"Holy shit, why didn't I start listening to this guy sooner?" (not due to any lack of reccomendation from folks around here) award of the day goes to Rahsaan Roland Kirk, who I'm listening to on Rhapsody. Solo on "Many Blessings"....
*runs off to grab alto and practice circular breathing*
