So it's still a work in progress, but I am very much looking forward to its development

You might be aware of it, but pandora is not allowed to play the specific band or song you choose. It just looks into the criterias that comes with it, and then finds a song; it could be that band or something else.

huh? well I chose dEUS as favourite band and they played "Stop-Start Nature" which is one of their least good songs and decided upon that they're medium syncopatic, etc. a whole sort of scientific rendition of what the song sounds like (something I'm definitely not in favour of). following their categories the Rasmus song must have sounded alike the dEUS one, which it doesn't, to my ears...
when I chose Tom Waits, it gave "great lyrics" as a supposedly scientific category... uhm?

If you choose the artist dEUS it can be based on any song in their catalogue, no rating taken into consideration. The Rasmus song was probably a bit like one of the dEUS songs you don`t listen to much. Probably best to base the selection on your favorite dEUS songs or pick artists that has a near flawless record. I do this; I get many bad ones also, but also an occasional discovery.

you can choose specific songs too? I thought you had to give in an artist? I just dislike the way they describe the songs in a technical and clinical way...
btw gnoosic.com is a similar site... but I already have so many artists I have to check out, brought to me by these sites or last.fm or rateyourmusic or from people on boards like these... I can't taaaaaaake anymooooooooooooooore!

I think one thing for us here, is that many of us don't really define the "why" in our music. It's weird to have anything that says "If you like this, try that" when you get into some of the more unique artists we talk about here.
I didn't really expect a match for Dead Can Dance, but I figured to see some bands like Vas or Stellamara, or perhaps some goth groups that would be similar to their earlier material. I really wasn't expecting granola rock

I just tried it today and I think it's great. Just off of R.E.M. it gave me a wide range of stuff I actually like. Everything from Sarah McLachlin to Led Zeppelin. Pretty cool service.
