jethro tull are amazing

I am a new member and will be a regular and here is my introduction post . If you have heard a tull album and weren't too impressed, well read below. I have all 20 jethro tull albums. Thick as a brick is awesome and another 4 or 5 albums are cool but all the other albums seem like half strength albums. But not anymore . Now that I have all the box sets, compilations and singles aswell, I have found the band to have about 80 album bonus tracks and most of these are among tulls best songs and they easily make the albums they belonged to. Such is the quality of most of these bonus songs, they are easily better than about half of the songs on most of the original albums. Some of the bonus songs are actually the best songs on the album all together. So any album which sounded weak, was only missing the other great half of songs which were left off while more commercial songs were added to the albums. Here is my outcome of the strength of the original albums with most of the bonus tracks included and some of the weaker album songs removed. For example, Warchild has 8 bonus tracks and with a different choice of songs, the album become twice as good eg.
(x2). Many of these songs aren't even found on the remasters. Some are different versions of old songs. I'll run through the albums and if you are very interested to hear the complete new sounding and much improved set lists. Just click the link below to hear samples of at least 200 songs.

This was(x1.5)-3 of 4 bonus tracks close to best 3 songs on album
Stand up(x1.5)-3 of 4 bonus tracks close to best 3 songs on album
Benefit(x1.5)-3 bonus tracks close to best 3 songs on album
Aqualung(x2)-8 of 9 bonus tracks better than half the album
Thick as a brick(unchanged)
A passion play(unchanged)-many good bonus tracks, but don't fit
Warchild(x2)-8 bonus tracks are better than 3/4 of album
Minstrel(x1.2)-2 bonus tracks are among best songs on album
Too old(x1.2)-2 bonus tracks are among best 3 songs on album
Songs from the wood(unchanged)
Heavy horses(x1.3)-3 of 5 bonus tracks among best songs on album
Stormwatch(x1.4)-3 bonus tracks among best songs on album
A(unchanged)
Broadsword(x2)-5 of 16 bonus tracks better than half the album
Under wraps(x1.5)-removal of songs and repaired drum sound
Crest(x1.2)-1 of 2 bonus tracks among best 3 songs on album
Rock island(x1.2)-1 of 2 bonus tracks among best 3 songs on album
Catfish(x2)-3 of 7 bonus tracks among best songs on album
Roots(unchanged)
Dotcom(x1.3)-1 bonus track among best songs on album

Almost all albums have had weaker songs removed to make room for many gems. Many of these gems are progressive rock pieces and heavy rock pieces with nice hammond organ and powerful vocals. Many beautiful acoustic classics added as well. Some great live and rare live stuff added as well. Check em out below . If you have only heard the original album set lists and haven't heard the bonus stuff, Jethro tull will go from being a good band to a brilliant band just by trying out short sampled albums which take about 3 minutes to browse. These guys are definately the strongest and coolest band of all time. Several classic albums formed from the full session material. Their many prog songs are up their with bands like YES, Gentle Giant, genesis, Camel, ELP, King crimson, Floyd, Zappa, Caravan, Goblin etc while their heavy rock songs are up their with Black Sabbath, Deep purple, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, Doors etc. But Tull continue excellent music through the decades with great sound too. A must for all music fans.

I got the remastered Stand Up the first time, and I haven`t really noticed that the four last tracks were bonuses. One of my best rock albums for sure. I find the other Jethro Tull I have heard to be very different from this album, but maybe you know another album (or just songs) that resembles Stand Up`s style?

I love Tull in all their incarnations. Cutting songs for an album is always a tricky thing, I guess (Never having done it, yet.). You always wonder what kind of constraints they have to deal with. Is it time, music flow, personal preference, money . . .

I guess that's another that we can chalk up to technology for giving these hidden treasures a new life. Also, to me, when you hear these missing pieces the orginal's are never the whole picture again.

Hey, Haakon try Benefit.

As far as favorite albums go, I like,"Songs From the Wood." Also anything early and live kicks ass!
