The Darkness – One Way Ticket To Hell… And Back

THE DARKNESS – ONE WAY TICKET TO HELL… AND BACK
[ATLANTIC]

The Darkness are back, and, despite the completely contradictory album title (whether intentional or not), they’ve managed to put forth a pretty solid follow-up to their massive 2003 debut, Permission To Land. Ticket starts strong and actually picks up steam in the latter half. It’s another riot of a listen.

3½/5

you may not like it, but theyre hardly pathetic. theyre about as tight a band as is out there rightnow. forthemostpart their songs are very very well and cleverly written. ican see some not being able to listen to it- their music is most certainly quite abrasive to some ears- but The Darkness are very talented.

A kinder and gentler chrisarclark. Must be the Bah Humbug season.

P.S. Belated Happy Birthday!

It's good to hear 'bout the release of a new album. I enjoyed the first and agree that they are a tight, rock and roll band. I'll keep an eye out for it.

I'm sure it will move a lot of units.

It's okay to like generic rock and roll. (think older Saturday night live Al Franken)

Very well put. I've listened to the iTunes preview, and while i dunno if it's worth the ten dollars for it (or i dont have the ten dollars) I'm hoping to get it as a present, it seems solid.

Seeing as grew up listening to generic rock 'n' roll, I would agree. Think not of Al Franken, but an actual band like J Geils or AC/DC. I own albums by both. The Darkness, they are nothing compared to either. I hear them compared to Queen on occasion, mainly by people who aren't actually familiar with Queen. We don't actually have to settle for "pretend" rock music when we are constantly being presented with real evidence that music is evolving. But for those that don't yet get that, this album will fill a perceived "empty" slot.
