No, this isn’t Ryan Adams’ twenty-ninth album, though it may seem that way. The third album of 2005 from the decade’s most prolific artist by far, 29’s darkly drawn out storytelling is his most demanding work yet, but eventually rewards the patient listener. Adams makes a helluva case for artist of the year.
