I haven't really heard any good albums in a while that weren't electric, jazz or avant-garde, so my list will be short.

Non-Prophets - Hope (hip-hop)
Ulver - Bergtatt (metal)
Melvins - Houdini (grunge)
Melvins - Stoner witch (grunge)

I know jazz is ok, but I can only reccomend the most famous ones which you know of already. That's why I didn't. As far as avant-garde goes I like "Merzbow - 1930"

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas. they just write exceptional music. i'd have to say it's like taking the Cure, New Order and Bjork and molding them into one.

i totally disagree, cocteau twins doesn't sound like TO ME that at all.

of course you might find similarities with some the cure albums but new order and bjork...?
