If we're going to get technical, it came from Blues and Jazz.

The Ultimate Horror came from the Devil. If there be devil's music, it's....that which is not named.

if we want to get really technical it all goes back to the first caveman dropping a beat on his rock with a stick while his buddy freestyled some grunts. funny how it all comes full circle when you listen to 50cent.

Good times.

Alright, everyone's going to think I'm tryin' to bash hip-hop, which isn't the case.

I think the jazz & blues influences were mixed in after the fact. I guess I can see some validity in the funk claim. More like this, though: Funk to Disco to Hip Hop.

I recently heard a sample from Brahm's violin concerto in an R&B tune that came out earlier this year. This doesn't mean that R&B came from Classical music.

Well, technically, your first post was about Rap, not Hip-Hop. I'd tend to agree slightly on the latter, but The Last Poets and Watts Prophets predated Disco by years...

No, but Hip-Hop did. It's amazing how bizarre the world is that without P. Schaeffer and P. Henry, we wouldn't have P. Diddy.

Getting back to the original subject, it's not like this sort of thing is without precedent.

After all, who could forget Ice Ice Baby even if they wanted to?

Well, if you guys would prefer to transcend all practical relevance, you could firmly place the beginnings of hip-hop/rap with Arnold Schoenberg's Ode to Napoleon composed in 1942. Poetry spoken rhythmically to music. Only thing missing is the beat.

With the disco thing, I know it's not that simple.

What were we talking about before I went off on a tangent?
