Why Does Music Suck Today?

Why Does Music Suck Today?

Yesterday I turned on my radio in the middle of the day for the first time this month and I immediately shut it off. They were playing Candy Shop by 50 and I can't stand it .
I wonder sometimes why the music aint what it used to be. I was dicussing this with my music teacher (he produces and works for Yamaha) and a classmate earlier that day. We all had the same opinion about the music coming out on radio that's its below mediocre and that anybody (the pop audience) will like it. I believe 100% that the music from the past is waaaay better than todays, but I have ask a person who is 2-4 years younger than me and they think that this music better than the old stuff

Another thing that I believe in is when Chuck D and his producer was dropping knowledge at the Remix Hotel last year I think and both of them said that Technology has gotten better but what has gone down is the music itself. Chuck D believed taht it was the 'one-man-band'; his producer disagrees but said something like people not learning how to use a instrument (that's why I'm trying to learn as many instruments as I can).

I appreciate the musicians and producers that really put it down but fo real, there's just too much mediocre.

What's ur opinion about the music today?

I hope I aint the only one that feels this way.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most musically fertile periods in the history of humanity, it doesn't matter what genres you're interested in -- there's so much good shit coming out that I can't afford to get it all. That said, if you're expecting the companies that control American radio to play anything other than the equivalent of disposable TV ad jingles, then it's your own fault. Unless you're listening to NPR or some independent channel, corporate radio hasn't played anything of artistic merit since before I was born, and even then, I doubt it ever has. The question you should be asking is, "why aren't I listening to/buying better music?" I'll leave that to you.

As above. Popular music is and has always been quite dissapointing on the whole, however there is an incredible amount of very excellent music around, you simply need to know where to look. I suspect that that has always been, and will continue to be, the case.

This should put things into perspective.

There indeed WAS a worse era in popular music. Check out these top hits from the years:

1950
Frosty The Snowman

1953
How Much is That Doggie in the Window

1954
Mr. Sandman

Then in 1955, Elvis came around and shook things up

I just saw Les Claypool, Black Label Society and Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and my friends very good band these past couple weeks in concert

so yeah you just gotta look, but man a quick search of past posts would've shown 8193031 of these posts of people that have came before you.
