Cool Best Jazz Albums of 2005

I figured we'd need a thread for the releases this year that everyone should be checking out, as a general guide for people who frequent this area, and those marginally interested. I don't have time to get started with a list, but I thought like starting the thread all the same.

Also, reissues or new releases of older recordings are okay.

So, anyone with picks for the year, feel free.

I just picked up the new Bad Plus release, "Suspicious Activity." I heard their first album and thought it was killer. I have been following them ever since and have never been disappointed. This new album keeps that streak alive. This is the most mature album they have put out, and it shows their progression with a heavier Free Jazz flavor. Check it out.

There is no point posting anything else after this post by the Grasshoppa. It always brings a tear to Satchmo's eyes when the Grasshoppa's progress like this one has.

I am not even going to comment on the Grasshoppa from North Carlonia's post.

Seba:

You can close the thread, now.

P.S. Ok, I am semi-joking about closing the thread. Of course, that also means I am semi-serious. I leave it to the Grasshoppa's to decide which is more true.

I enjoy their material as well, you're not the only one

Well it's not as if I didn't expect those to show up when I started the thing -- that's why I allowed for reissues/older recordings. That said, I was hoping that we could get a list of new recordings going, for those interested.

Anyway, I'll get a list together tomorrow. Still in the middle of a mega-grind at the moment, so I'm signing off for now.

So impressed that you’re speechless, huh. Can't say that I blame you.

Yeah. . .

(Stretches back in chair and puts feet on desk)

. . . it was a good post.

For the record, I would also like to see some new jazz albums that are worth checking out.

You lost 5 points with the Bad Plus post, but this very original response gets you 10 points.
