music to jam along to with my guitar

is there anywhere i can get a hold of music with the guitar part taken out, so that i can jam along to it? kinda like if there was a version of 'walk this way' without the lead guitar, and i could play it while listening to it.

mind you, i dont feel like paying for it.
thanks in advance.

if you have MIDI scoring software, that's a way you could go.
download A MIDI file or make one yourself then take the guitar part out and there you go...

What I've done in the past is record the other part of a piece myself and use a drum machine for the beats then jam over the top of that. if you've got synth/sequencer software as well, you can program in any non-guitar parts without too much trouble, so long as you've got appropriate samples.

I've never actually been so big on finding specialized shit for that kind of thing. WHat I like to do is check the Galaxie music channels and surf for whatever it is I feel like soloing in. I used to frequent the jazz and blues channels, but recently I've found myself doing the ambient ones, and improvising to soundscapes and most of the songs on Kid A. My ear for melody has improved a lot.

But yeah, check out those Galaxie channels, man. If you've got Rogers Digital cable they're in the seven hundrerds, but I'm not so sure about satellite. If you've got neither... well, I tried.

I don't know if you've ever heard of the program Band in a Box, it's not quite what you're looking for, but I think it's kinda close. You give it chords, tempo, style, etc., and it'll give you a background to play with. It's better suited for jazz than rock, but you might find it useful. On the other hand, unless you know someone who has it that you can burn or borrow it from, you'd have to pay for it.
