i like how you guys make fun of something you know nothing about. at first it seemed as if you wanted to learn a little of the rap lingo but it just turned into making fun of it.
the east coast vs. west coast was about gangs/hoods...
a pimp is someone that has a lot of girls
a playa is someone that has a lot of girls and money
a gangsta is someone that is in a gang or has done hard time for something gang-related
a hustla is someone that hustles... like sells drugs
and the gangsta rap is from when it was gang members rapping about what they did or what they went through in their hood.
Believe it or not there are stories in alot of good rap. I don't like alot of the rap that's so popular today. 50 cent is a joke to me. if you want to hear a real gangsta listen to Tupac, Snoop(older stuff), NWA, BTNH. as for newer rap i have respect for just a few rappers like Nas, The Game, Twista(just because he raps really good), Eminem(Best Freestyler), etc. i don't like the hot boys or puffy or jay-z or 50 cent or any of the wanna be's. yes puffy is making it big but he only made it after BIGGIE died. before that barely noone ever heard of him.

You got it all wrong, darktick. I really wanna know more about Rap. Only it's genre I'm being confronted with everyday while I have no idea of what's going on there.
And as far as ghetto-talk goes, it's rather tricky for me as a foreigner to remotely understand basic Rap-slang.
Nobody is bashing Rap here. Why would we do that?

what happened to blackalicious, kurupt, kool g rap, percee p, mos def, kweli, jedi mind tricks, ra the rugged man, mf doom, little brother, atmosphere, gangstarr, immortal technique...i mean nwa and all thats good, too, but still, theres some guys really truning it out today, past the mainstream stuff your mentioning.
