If you're saying that my precision on the Nirvana bit means that I'm being over precise and technical on this whole "Is Janis Joplin Blues or Not?" thing, then I'll point out that I haven't even said Janis Joplin isn't blues yet. Frankly, I'm not even sure enough on the definition of blues to give an opinion on the matter. So really, my precision doesn't do anything for your argument, not that it even had anything to do with it in the first place, I was just correcting you. I'll keep the name, "Mr. Slide Rule" though, it's got a nice ring.

Kurt Cobain's unplugged performance of that Leadbelly song (My Girl My Girl Where have You Been) is one of the most riviting Blues performances I ever heard.

No, it doesn't depend on one's definition of the Blues. If that were the case, someone could say "My Heart Will Go On" is Blues just becasue it's a sad song (sad having several meanings here...). Hey, Metallica is Country & Western because that's my definiton of C&W. Your argument is flawed.
And if your experience with riviting Blues is Kurt's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", then you're obviously not armed with a significant knowledge of Blues.
Okay, now you can call me Mr Sliderule.

Whoa, Zola. I agree with your argument completely, but I've already fallen in love with the name Mr. Slide Rule. Get your own.
P.S. TheZola really hit the nail on the head, it's hardly using a "musical slide rule", more like common sense.

I had one too many last night and went looking for a fight, I think. Not a good time for me personally. I don't even know what I'm arguing about...just howling at the moon. I apologize for my unseemly behavior.
